My 1999 TDi 110 (160k miles) has been on a downward spiral in terms of performance for some time. Unable to rev hard and with a serious flatspot at about 3000 rpm. Fuel economy unaffected (still 45+ in mixed motorway and A-road commuting) but pulling power seriously lacking.

Mercedes injectors are service exchange, so someone must be reconditioning them.

 

I would be surprised if VAG weren't doing the same, but finding a company to do it in small quantities just for you may be difficult.

 

The new Merc engines will have solid state piezo injectors, very technical and VERY pricey ;)

the point is we disconnected ours and it made a hell of a difference but putting a new one in also made a hell of a difference - see link for timings above

Aye, but I was referring to the OP who has discounted the MAF as it made no difference when unplugged!

 

I unplugged my MAF (everything was working fine, it was just to see the difference) and I only went a couple of hundred yards before I plugged it back in, it was awful!

yep got to agree with that although embarrassing would be a good description - I was sure that the cyclist was going to overtake me ;) before I got to the layby to plug it back in :D :D :D

Diesel injectors for the older (not the common rail) engines are definately serviceable !! I have had my Toyota Carina's injectors (needles and housings) changed when 400K on the clock. Can't remember the cost , but was nothin compared to the price for the whole thing changed .Toyota supplied the parts.

As far as I know the ECU is re-flashable with the right kit, so it is a re-map, not chipped. And for all your insurer knows you bought it like that and know nothing about it.... Allegedly!

 

Just looked on their site and it is an add on box.
